Promotion of the Super Gateway Port Project |
With the goal of providing a level of cost and service surpassing other major
ports in Asia, this project is working to reduce port costs by 30%
and shorten the lead time from unloading of container cargo to distribution
through the expansion of port links and terminals, introduction of
information technology, and collaboration in cargo handling. |
Port of Osaka Yumeshima Tunnel |
Osaka City's waterfront area provides numerous trade functions at Yumeshima and
logistics facilities at Sakishima. The Yumeshima Tunnel is being
constructed to link the 2 districts to facilitate the smooth flow
of transport and increase the volume of container cargo and other
port-related freight, and for the benefit of the people involved
in the increasingly advanced and diversified port activities at Yumeshima
(Hokkou Minami District) and Sakishima (Nankou District).
To handle the increased volume of traffic accompanying the development of Yumeshima,
Sakishima and other waterfront areas, construction is planned of a new railway
line linking the city center to the waterfront, and preparatory work is now underway
for the rail line sections that will share Yumeshima Tunnel. |
Construction of
an International Shipping Container Terminal |
Serving the Osaka metropolitan area's huge consumer market, Osaka Port's volume
of container cargo - especially for imports - continues to grow,
and the container yards are now fully utilized. In addition, the
size of the container ships used on main shipping routes is expected
to grow, and more than half of the container ships docking at most
of Osaka Port's wharves will require draft adjustment.
To alleviate these conditions, construction of a high-standard container facility
is now underway at the Yumeshima International Shipping Container Terminal. |
Construction of
Large Wharves to Support the Regional Economy |
Facilities for handling larger ships are now under construction to provide a
logistics hub that will support and stimulate regional industrial
and economic activity.
